Iron ore

Iron ore

Iron with symbol Fe is a dark red to rusty red mineral usually found in form of Hematite [Fe2O3] or Magnetite [FeO3]. It occurs in Quartz bodies, Banded Iron Formations and as thinly layered sedimentary rock in schist belts. It also occurs in Marble and as Pisolitic Ironstone deposits.

Iron ore is predominantly Hematite as it is found in this form 70% of the time. It can be found in Nigeria (Enugu, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kogi). Iron is most widely used in the production of metal used in making steel. It is also used in primary structural engineering, in automobiles, and in making industrial machinery.  It can be mined through open pit mining method and blasting.
